King's Lynn Young Players
"Our aim is to push the boundaries and give young people the opportunity to develop and shine, as well as gain strength from each other's skills and abilities. Above all, we aim to have fun, to encourage talent, build confidence and gain experience of performing in a safe environment."
The Young Players is the youth group of the King’s Lynn Players who are a thriving community theatre group. We aim to encourage the support and involvement of the local community in our efforts to present first-class theatrical productions to a high professional standard. We are a member of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).
The Young Players are run by experienced volunteers who are committed to nurturing the talent of young people. Whilst always encouraging young people within our Society, our dedicated youth group was established by Carol Beveridge in 1990 with the aim of teaching our young members the principles of improvisation, mime, and stagecraft. Now, thirty-four years later, the Young Players have been rebuilding since Covid-19 and have been very active with performances of Alice in Wonderland and over 20 of our young people performed in The Wizard of Oz – in November 2023. In 2024, we have just finished a successful production of Cats Young Actors Edition in collaboration with Springtime Singers.
We have long history of performing on the Guildhall of St George stage. Working in collaboration with St George’s Guildhall Project Team, the Young Players will be meeting on the site during 2024.
We have reaped the rewards of our investment in youth through the Young Players. Our aim has always been to push the boundaries and give young people the opportunity to develop and shine, as well as gain strength from each other's skills and abilities. Above all, we aim to have fun, to encourage talent, build confidence and gain experience of performing in a safe environment.
In 2023, we were successful in achieving a £5,000 grant from the Norfolk Community Foundation Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust Fund. This enabled us to re-establish Young Players, and the funding supported our production of Alice In Wonderland, alongside increasing our safeguarding provision. In 2024, a further grant from the Trust Fund supported our production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats Young Actors Edition.
Several Young Players have gone on to professional careers realising their dream to perform in the West End, on television and through teaching young people to learn to dance and sing. Other Young Players have stayed local or returned from university and continue to be part of our society.
